Default Italian Guard Grenadiers

So I had a great, but busy weekend, part of which was spent finishing up the Italian Guard Grenadiers. I found a great French language site with excellent plates of the Italians which I found to be of enormous value, as my usual sources left a few questions unanswered. The figures are a mix of Foundry (the command and drummer) and older Hinchliffe figures that I stripped and repainted in a painstaking but rewarding process. The Hinchliffe figures were plumeless, so I made new plumes from cut down pipe cleaners which ended up working pretty well. I also had to construct new bayonets for a number of them, but all in all the Hinchliffe figures, though not inspiring by any means, turned out to be fairly decent.

The napitalia site lead me to the French language site. Here are the links:

Next stop the Velite Grenadiers.

Very nice work! Almost makes me want to drag out my Napoleonics! What rule set do you use?

We've been using the DBN rules with great success and enjoyment. Simple rules that are interesting, challenging, and give me a reason to paint Napoleonics again.

Here's the link to the site:

Excellent David. Thanks for posting. I would love to see a photo or more of your armies once complete. If I ever get through all the German allies, the Italians will have to be next.

Tom,

For more photos just go to my blog listed below and click on the DBN label listed on the left side of the screen (you'll have to scroll down to find it).

Thanks David. I've been on your site before but not the right spot. Inspiring work there. Love the Brunswickers. And those Jena Prussians from AB / minifig are really attractive.

Your colors are nice and bright. Do you use a white undercoat?

Great figs. I have to really study the figs to see differences. I cannot tell the difference in the plumes until I read which figs are which, fantastic work! The add on plumes are better than the original. Great touches such as the mud on the pant cuffs.

Thanks for the link.

Tom,

I do use a white undercoat, but also take the time to had paint highlights in a brighter shade, which helps the smaller figures stand out a bit more.
