Default What's Up With Fanaticus

Just a quick note on what's going on behind the scenes at Fanaticus.

1) A number of you have noticed that individual's post counts have dropped. Unfortunately, the bulletin board had a technical glitch...several members had their post counts basically frozen (i.e. new posts were not increasing their total). The act of resetting the bulletin board post counter caused it to recalculate the current post count for all users...and the recalculation did not include those older posts which had been archived by the Board in text files. Unfortunately, there is no way for me to recapture those numbers, although your original posts are still there (and retrievable via use of the search tool).

2) We're within a couple weeks of implementing an updated version of the VBulletin board software for the Fanaticus Forum. If I go with the full featured version, which is where I'm leaning, not only will I have better anti-spammer tools...but I will also have a set of organizational and content management tools that will let me integrate the resources page and the bulletin board into a more "unified" site. The implication of this is that I may be able to assign permissions to selected Fanatici to help me maintain the site and/or move to a wiki-style format where everyone can contribute and police the content. Don't want to get your hopes up too much...for now, I should just say stay tuned for more on that later. Obviously, if I go that route...it may take a while to fully integrate the existing resources into the new site.

For those who have patiently been awaiting a return to biweekly updates of product news, eyecandy and new gaming resources, I'm afraid I'm still in a time bind with work, etc. I've been able to start publishing some content again (e.g. variant rules, BUA pictures, etc.), but until I can get the spammer issue resolved and the new bulletin board situated, a return to regular weekly updates is probably not realistic. But I'll keep plugging away as time permits.

Thank you for all your efforts, Chris! Considering you do this all for the love of the game, I for one am grateful for all the work and content you've provided in the past, appreciate whatever your schedule and kindness will allow in the future, and will be happy to help out in whatever supporting role is available.

Great news, having help from other Fanataci would be great.

Do you need a donation to help with the upgrade?

Chris, thanks for thinking of us and making the site better. Take your time and do things as you fit them in. After all, your hobby is gaming not web page management

Keep up the good work.

Chris,

Thanks for all of the work that you have done to make the Fanaticus the great site that it is. It has allowed me to make virtual contact with like minded people all over the world. This contact made it possible for Mark and I to begin contemplating our trip to H'Con 09. Being able to put faces to monikers was really great. Without such a resouce I doubt whether I would have made the trip at all.

Regards,

Whatever. Enough excuses. Work, yeah right. Get it done already.

It all sounds good, Chris, but only if your time and effort is not taxed even more. We have been getting along with sharing eye candy, battle reports and everything else by use of our blog references and other pic sites. We have grown and shared as a community. If it comes to pass...great. If I knew a darn about websites I'd volunteer to assist.

Main thing is...get in your own paint and play time.

Frank

And he is a good cook, too, in addition to the great talents he shows here! Though that may make Frank divorce his wife and ask Chris to marry him!
