Hi Greg,

I finished 'The Caspian Gates' on Wednesday and whilst enjoyable I did find it lagged behind the previous three. Still a good story, but it had a deal less action than the earlier ones, and somehow you never feel that Ballista and his familia are ever in real danger.

Straight after that I plunged into the latest in the Uthred saga by Bernard Conrnwell - The Death of Kings and that was brilliant. I finished it this morning (two days and a morning).

It is a pity that on the DBA table a campaign representing this series would see the Middle Anglo Saxons run down by the Vikings in short order with no help for it because the suspense in the books is amazing.

I am now starting the third in the Rahotep series by Nick Drake Egypt: The Book of Chaos which is a historical crime story covering the period when Tutankamun's wife tried to find herself a Hittite husband.

All good

Cheers

Hi David,

Thanks for that. May I borrow the Caspian Gates when I come down next month?

Cheers,

Hi all,

I am taking a break from the "Ice and Snow" series by George Martin. I am about 3/4 the way through "Killer of Men" by Christian Cameron. This is the 1st book of a trilogy that covers the Persian Wars. This volume is covering the Ionian Revolt and I have just finished the part dealing with the sacking of Sardis. I already have the second novel, "Marathon".

Cheers,

I have been enjoying Mike Duncan's "The History of Rome" podcast:

http://thehistoryofrome.typepad.com/

I am on episode 71 right now (about halfway through what is available) and highly recommend it.
