Default Army Lists: the use of "or"...

I am a little confused with how to interpret "or" in some of the army lists. For example in the Nubian army list, it states that you can take 9 3Bw elements or 2Ps. Does that mean that it is either 9 bow elements or 9 Psiloi or can you have a mix of the two types (e.g. 5 bow & 4 psiloi)...thanks!

It says 9x2Ps or 3Bw - this means you can take any mixture of psiloi and bow.

If you had to take all as psiloi or all as bow, it'd say 9x2Ps or 9x3Bw.

"The form '3x4Sp or 3x2Ps' means that all 3 elements must be the same. The form '3x4Sp or 2Ps' means that any combination of 4Sp and 2Ps can be used."

Right from the rules. Hope that helped.

You can have any mix of Ps or Bw to make up the 9 elements.

If it was printed 9x2Ps or 9X3Bw then you could only have one or the other.

The second to last paragraph on page 20 of the rule book explains it all.

Wow ... 3 replies, all being typed simultaneously, and all saying the same .... is this a record?

Even though it can initially be confusing, once you understand Phil's shorthand the lists are easy to follow.

As was shown by the three responses that all agreed with each other.

I have Nubians and have a mixture of psiloi and bow elements. They are not a complete wash out, although they are challenging to play. It is possible to win with them against, for example, Early Egyptians.

In the Skythian list, is it possible to take 3 AUX? That one is slightly confusing.

It looks as if the "3Ax" refers to auxilia with 3 figures on each element rather than 3 elements of auxilia.

I read it as you have:-
Choice 1: 2 elements of psiloi plus 1 element of horde;

Choice 2: 2 elements of psiloi plus 1 element of auxilia;

Choice 3: 3 elements of light horse.
If you choose to field infantry instead of extra light horse then two of the infantry elements are psiloi and the other one can either be auxilia or horde.
