Do any of the Fanatici remember (this goes way back) minis by the name of Brescia? I bought some in the mid-70s from an Alnavco catalogue. They were 1:72 metals, advertised then as 20mm, and were a perfect match for the Airfix plastics that I was then using.
I only bought a few and have always regretted not buying more at the time. I've never seen them advertised since and I assume the company went out of business. The figures were typical mid-70s stuff, static poses, one pose per figure type but they had a certain charm all their own. I have a sentimental attachment to them that sounds like Paul Hannah's love of the old Mike's Models. Some of the old Brescias still augment my current stuff, mostly Newline 20mm. My Brescias (I think they were mispelled Bresica in the old catalogue)include Cretan archers, later Greek peltasts, Macedonian phalangites, mercenary hoplites and some Roman velites that looked like hastati with circular shields. They came in small plastic boxes, usually 12 to a box for $3 or less. I thought about them because I just Pine Sol'ed some of the peltasts to update their paint job. They've done their fair share of fighting in my local DBA games and will continue to be part of my armies no matter how "modern" the rest of the figures are. I'm hoping somebody can tell me more about these old veterans. Thanks for any input. George |

Good luck with your search George! You might want to post about this over on TMP if you don't get any answers here, as that reaches a larger audience.

Hi,
I have some of those Bresica. Roman velites, painted. Did you need some? $2 each. 16 of them, based for 25m DBA. Let me know Bob. |

Bob,
Thanks for the offer. I've got plenty of those velites. I bought my Brescias back when standard unit sizes were 12-24 figs or so. Pre-DBA. So I've got lots of the Roman velites. Of course, they can convert nicely to hastati with the substitution of an oval shield. I do have some Brescia (or is it really Bresica?) Alexandrian phalangites that I replaced years ago with figs that have upright pikes. The Al's would be glad for a new home. 24 of 'em on Litko bases for 25 mm DBA. I am glad to know that somebody else remembers/has these old figs. It's not a total hallucination then. And Ivan, I'll post to TMP too. I'm mostly looking for information, just to satisfy my old curiosity. George |

I did get a bit more information over on the TMP board. And for anyone interested, I found a review of the Bresicas (not Brescia, as I long believed) here:
