Question

hello,

it's been a while that there aren't been any point-based tournament like this one :

http://www.users.bigpond.com/fabbrett/dbaol/CAT.html

Fabbrett isn't playing anymore, but I believe his army builder could be easily copied (and edited to the element price the organizer would like) (and modified to change the automatic email)

I have been thinking of organizing it myself, but I have too much tourneys at this time (and more waiting their turn )

But I 'm sure there's someone there willing to do one but just don't have any idea...???

Yours

Hi Jerome

Looks interesting, but unsure as to go about with the mechanics of it. Ran the Hacker's Tourney earlier this year, but used a very simple webpage design and would need some guidance on how to use something similar to recreate Fabrett's design.....

Let me know what you think

P.

Jerome, I came across this site a short while ago and had the same thoughts about its potential for being restarted. Personally, I don't have the talent to recreate it myself but I would certainly look forward to taking part if a more gifted individual were to give it a go.

Adapting the web site (mainly, the army creation table) is probably no big deal for me - I can do it - and I can host the pages.

The only thing needed is some one who can rewrite the rules as he wants them to be (or keep the same) and can update the page as players register and fight battles and so on... well, organize things ! That the most work, but there are no special skills needed.

This is nothing but simple web site updating. Fabrett has obvious graphic design skills, but these are not needed

So anyone, let me know if you want me to take the army creation table and update it. For this I 'll need the element price you want, if ever you want to change them.

Wink

I'm happy to take the organising task on and work with you on the website - I think the army points list looks balanced, although I'm open to thought on this - is 100 points right for the army, also?

cheers

Are you looking for the version 1 or 2 of these tournaments ?

100 pts seems fine for armies around 12 element (and standart maps) - the other (150) seems better for the larger scale maps.

I like the low scoring idea of the second version.
Also, Fabrett organised 8 tourn at once, for 8 players per tournament. Do you want to start on something so big ?

May I suggest a themed one rather than an open version. Also limited the troop type available to the ones originally allowed in the army choosen.

An interesting idea, but that would be a completly different tournament. Anyone to organize it ?

I think I'd like to start with version 1 - the 100pt armies on standard boards - in a world cup style, with about 16 players in pools of 4 and the top two going through in each poll to knock-out quarters, semis and then final...... The scoring system seems a good one for the pool matches....... maybe after this one, I'd like to run a 150-200pt version on bigger maps, with multi-generals?

Shall we start setting it up?
