Default 'ere we go, 'ere we go - French Lights and Guns

These may not seem like much, but this was all that was present at Hastenbeck. More light troops were scattered in a cordon miles away from the battlefield.

I have added some text covering their actual purpose during a campaign. As the French colleciton moves into phase two (May), I will add more light troops, including the mounted arm of the Volontaire units.

Default General review - phase one finished

I wanted to refurbish my terrain and I will post an overview of that project later, but here are photos of the French Army.

This places the project nearly 2/3rds complete. The next phase will see grenadiers, auxiliaries from the Reichsarmee and more guns and horse which will bring the total above 120 elements. I do have eleven generals that must have troops.

Orders for the remaining troops should arrive at the latter part of this month, which is timely as we have a lot of National holidays next month. Plenty of time to paint.

Default Descriptions added

BTW, I have added brigade and regimental descriptions to the photos.

Unless otherwise stated, each cavalry element represents a 2 squadron regiment of cavalry and each infantry element a battalion of line troops. Light troops are 2 Jgr/Sk per battalion.

Within the brigade, only the senior regiment's colours are displayed.

Those look great. I am just getting back into "Lace Wars" concentrating on the Wars of Spanish and Austrian Successions as well as some SYW. I will be doing 6mm and am inspired by your project. The more I look at them though, I am so tempted to sell off what I have and delve into the expanding ranges of 10mm figures. Its good to dream.

Well done!

Nice dreams Kontos.

This morning I spent some time looking at the next project after Hastenbeck. I have two armies already based but not organized. After looking at Kronoskaf.com, I decided to duplicate the order of battle for both Prussian and Austrian armies at Prague, May 1757.

This was certainly the largest army commanded by Frederick and looking at my notes, the Prussians should have 147 elements. Every Cuirassier regiment was present as were 22 battalions of Grenadiers. More later tomorrow with a breakdown.

The Austrians are based as well, but I will have plenty of extra to field elsewhere, for example my French, the Reichsarmee and Saxons or even the relief army of Daun (Battle of Kolin).

This gets better and better.

Default French Grenadiers, Heavy Cavalry and Hussars

From the extra's box, I gathered 25 elements now destined for the Army of the Lower Rhine.

The figures are organized by their brigade so I can list by column what needs to be painted. At this moment, all that needs be done are outling with dark grey or dark brown, highlighting and some minor dry brushing.

By the weekend I should have four flags for the Grenadiers and the two Palatine brigades, plus two cavalry standards completed by the weekend.

Moving along

Robert,

Absolutely GREAT! Every time I see your updates I find myself pulling out my reference books and wanting to start painting my armies so badly, but know I have to let them wait their turn. Regardless - I am really enjoying seeing your progress!

Default Banners, bugles and drum roll - more SYW French

Flags put the final touch on any army and the SYW French are no exception. French flags are relatively easy, opposite quadrants - same colour or same colour for all four.

http://18thcenturysojourn.blogspot.c...-more-syw.html

One final order of infantry and artillery and the French will be complete. Four more generals to do and all eleven will be done. While waiting for that order I shall have to time to spend on BUA's and re-furbish my woods.

Those are looking real "Dandy" there, Robert. Good job! I am painting up 6mm WSS Marlbourians for a new game system - Maurice. I'll be fighting my friend's Franco-Bavarian host. Love the "mass" of 6mm but hate painting the little buggers. Its a real strain on these old eyes - magnifier or not!

Continue to post your progress and a finale pic of your armies would be a sight to see!
