Default Re-building a SYW French army

I have posted to the 18th c. Sojourn blog photos of my latest project, a SYW French army. Last year September 2011, I started rebasing my WRG collection to base sizes for DBA-HX use. That project is nearly done and was eager to re-buld my French.

With all the painting commissions, I am now painting these in a similar stye with shading and highlighting. More photos will be posted next week.

Robert, Looking forward to seeing the finished army. The French are always my favorites and this makes me want to get back on my Nine Years War French army.

I will place an order with OG for the cavalry today and in that time all French infantry, artillery and generals will be based and flocked.

My first SYW French collection were built purely on the prettiest flags. I opted for an actual order of battle to create a "sense" to the collection as I have more foreign troops; Swiss, German and Swedes.

I should have photos of the infantry in a few days.

...Oh, we are gaming a lot of 7YW-battles. I have the Prussians as well as the Austrians. A russian army is not compleet till now. We use to field 36 elements with separatet officer stands on a 80x120cm board.
My opponent fields the french and the british armies. Most of our miniatures are Essex with a few Freicorps...

That is interesting. The current group of French infantry (new batch, photos tomorrow) will represent units for the F&IW. I have finished 50 native indians and the Militia and woodsmen figures will follow shortly. Many of these will be sold off, as I do not need that many figures.

Robert, interesting that you picked regiments by their flags. Since I do few flags, I have always picked mine based on the prettiest uniforms. Thus my Nine Years War French have one regiment with violet facings and brown breeches, and another with gray facings and pretty green breeches. Then of course I also have the garde Francais and Garde Suisse. I am looking forward to seeing the pictures of the finished army!

Default The French in America

More photos have been posted to blog showing the last stage before applying the regimental details; facings and hat trim.

Of the six battalions selected the cuff colours are evenly balanced between red, blue and white. The flags for La Reine and Bourgogne are done.

Default The French in Europe

From the Americas and now back to Europe to present my French cavalry.

Just uploaded photos of French cavalry with generals. The collection now follows a historical line and not one based on pretty uniforms or flags.

http://18thcenturysojourn.blogspot.com/

The order of battle at Hastenbeck lists a nice balance of troop types, French line, foreign troops, lights and plenty of cavalry, mostly heavy. At the end of the week, I should have the infantry finished and based. However, the ground work will not be done as I have quickly run out of sand.

Enjoy the photos and comments welcomed.

Photos of the French infantry have been posted to the blog. These are the "old" and new French line plus the foreign regiments present at Hastenbeck. Ground work and flocking need be done and the flags I will do this weekend.

Light troops and artillery next time.
