Default HoTT Hyborean armies.

I have always resisted building Hyborian armies as I have always had plenty of assorted historical troops I could use for hyborian armies. My historical troops are starting to look a bit historical to me so I think I will build an Aquilonian army.
Aquilonian because it is fairly straight forward, some knights, spearmen and assorted mercenaries from various neighboring countries. this will finally give me a reason to paint up the black raven foundry illyrians

and men of ashur
http://oldglory15s.com/catalog/index...79_388&sort=3a
as these will make fine hyborian troops.
at some point I would like to do some Stygians.

Sounds like a great project that just may become addictive.

Do not overlook Aquilonia's frontier troops of pikemen and longbowmen that fought the Picts.

This is all Copplestone's fault!

I think I'll even have to break down and get the recent edition of HOTT, I only have the 1st one. (Who does sell the book these days?)

I'm hoping that next after the Fantasy Romans will be Fantasy Egyptians for Stygians! More folks should ask him about these

I've also been eyeing the Old Glory Zulus in full regalia as conversion fodder for Zembabwei: http://oldglory15s.com/catalog/produ...oducts_id=1363
Haven't spotted the perfect 15mm wyvern type mount for the general yet....

Picts would be an easy addition. A Shaman and various warband types.

Another opponent for the Cimmerians could be Hyperboreans. Anyone have any thoughts on these?
I was thinking of them as evil Cimmerians with sorcery. Perhaps with Mammoths, Abominable Snowmen and Undead led by a magic wielding Queen.

Yeah, general Barbarians + the exotic critters. Cavalry, and maybe light horse too -- Skythia is their capital afterall; but not the knights of Aquilonia.

I'm pondering how to fit in the upcoming Fantasy Romans. I'm leaning towards Nemedian. While like most of the states, they have their medievaloid elements, I can easily picture them as Roman. I think it's their police force, and nobles riding around Numalia in chariots that really strikes me as Romanesque.

Those of you caught up in the frenzy, Mike Stelzer has a list on file here at Fanaticus:

http://www.fanaticus.org/DBA/armies/varhyborian.html

Someone else has done a lot of homework:

http://hyboria.xoth.net/gazetteer/nations.htm

Same site, but cross references the arms and armour:

http://hyboria.xoth.net/rules/arms_armor.htm

And Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aquilonia_(Conan)

The movie opens here next week.

I have just been rereading "Red Nails" and the other stories in Conan the Warrior. At another thread I mentioned Blue Moon's latest offering of 15mm Darkest Africa. These would make superb natives located south of the river Styx.
