In other words, I don't think the continued existence of 2.2 or 2.2+ is hurting the DBA community nearly as much as having only 3.0 would. I wish we would all stick together with one version -- but its just not going to happen. There's a large group of people that have embraced 3.0. And there's a large group of people that don't want to play 3.0 and are happy to stick with 2.2/2.2+.

Freedom to choose the game that provides you with the most enjoyment is a good thing. Even if it means we choose different things.
Hear, hear. Any time there's a major revision of a game, that in and of itself causes splitting.

Yup. WRG 6th is still going strong in England with a tournament scene. 7th was too much of a different game that those players didn't want to switch to.

Fair enough. I encourage others to wait until 3.0 has been released before fully accepting or rejecting it.

Personally, I am unlikely to ever give it a fair shot. I had always intended to do so, but some of the things Phil has said over the last 6 - 9 months will make it difficult for me to ever embrace 3.0. In my warped mind, though, I can still happily play 2.2. I guess it was grandfathered in while I still liked Phil.

Anyway, the bottom line remains the same, I think people should play whatever rule set or whatever version of the rules they enjoy. Pay for the rules and then play them however you like.

To be honest, I could probably deal with 3.0, regardless of what it looks like in the final version- if it existed in a vacuum, that is. Unfortunately for Mr. Barker, his increasingly snide remarks, grossly generalized statements about Americans, and his overall tone of derision and degradation have entirely turned me off from desiring to ever give him a single cent of US currency again. If he wants to be snooty and look down his nose at those of us across the pond, he can do without my support, be it financial or intangible.

I sort of see Mr. Barker like a musician who only writes music for the didgeridoo: it's interesting to hear once or twice, but eventually you should listen to your friends and write for an instrument people actually like or have, you know, heard of.
