Default Games formally known as DBA

Apparently, according to Yahoo, we should change the name of this topic to "Games formally known as DBA".

I unsubscribed a week or two ago; the yahoo group has been going downhill for several years, and is now quite venomous. It's really too bad.

It was bad when I unsubscribed from the group.

Have a feeling that if I commented, my comment might break Fanaticus rules.

I am still a member, but rarely venture over there.I don't think its format is user friendly never mind some of the members.I quite value any views on DBA whatever rules any players favour. To me its the game that is important and no one person knows everything on any given subject not to learn from other players.

So I'll be staying here for a while.

Actually, after I suggested "WADBAG DBA 2.2 Variant" what Sue Barker posted on the Yahoo group today was:

Quote:
I request those running sessions using to 2.2+ amendments to advertise their sessions as "THE WADBAG RULES BASED ON DBA 2.2"

This makes the position quite clear and also acknowledges Phil's contribution as author of the DBA 2.2 rules.

thank you,
Sue
Seems to me that something along these lines could be negotiated by WADBAG with Phil. It would seem to remove most of the legitimate objections to what is currently known as 2.2+. So, why not try it?

Phil's objections have to do with the fact that we made and played with changes to the rules that he did not approve or agree with. In the same way that he objected to players and tournament directors discarding his BUA rules from 2002 on. There is a similarity to the feud he had with BHGS regarding the terrain rules used there for DBM tournaments in the late 90s and early 00s. Further, he has said as much on multiple occasions.

Bob Beattie's riff the last three years was that the name was the issue; I've never heard anything from Phil saying anything similar. And statements from Sue are not statements from Phil; her intents and opinions have historically often been divergent from Phil's (not surprisingly, as they are different people).

Finally, Sue has (to the best of my knowledge) never read the preamble to the v2.2+ rules. Where we say much the same thing as she thinks we ought to say. I'm sure if she read it, she would realize that the v2.2+ rules acknowledge Phil's contribution in much stronger terms than she thinks we should, and she would be much happier.

Do they mean "formerly". I suspect "formally" is not their intention.

I gave up on the Yahoo forum a very long time ago. I have had better times in prison.

While I admit I am not a club or convention player, and am therefore an outsider here in a sense, like most of us I find the perpetual verbal battle between 2.2+ and 3.0 proponents painful.

So, regardless of Phil's past positions, it might be worth sending him an email, quoting Sue's statement, and offering to change the name to something other than DBA 2.2+.

For everybody's sanity can we ignore the Yahoo group, the Barkers objection to DBA2.2+ etc.

Please live and let live.

All rules will lose players if you do not, except I believe DBA2.2+.
