Can anyone assist with suggestions for 15mm camp followers for later Assyrians and Urartians?
I've had a look through various manufactures websites and spoken directly to Essex and Irregular but no-one sems to have anything particularly suitable. I had considered the possibility of going for some "War Dogs" and a handler for the Assyrians, as I thought that would be a little different, but I now can't remember where I read about that (or is my memmory playing tricks?). |

Given the fearsome reputation the Assyrians had, consider this mini-diorama for your camp: A couple Assyrian spearman standing around while another administers a lashing to some poor sod.
Modify a chariot driver figure by placing a wee bit of thin wire in one hand as his whip. The "offender" could be any lightly clad, Ps figure from the era. A couple tents off to one side would complete the scene. It would use extra figures you probably already have, but it's just an idea idea... //Paul in Seattle [ March 28, 2003, 07:27: Message edited by: Paul A. Hannah ] |

My Assyrian camp followers are a variation on Paul's idea. Two spearmen stand guard next to a scribe with a clay tablet. The scribe is, of course, recording the great deeds of Snaglatuuth II, king of the Assyrians, who single-handedly destroys all who dare to oppose him.
The camp itself (when finally done) will include one or more of the following: -- A broken Syro-Canaanite chariot, w/ appropriate heads on sticks. -- An Assyrian chariot with sacred standard (Assur of course) -- An Assyrian commander's tent (based on the drawings in Armies of the Ancient Near East). - Jack |
