Default Winter-Con ACT DBA Championships

Hi Guys,

Just a quick message regarding the DBA competition at the Winter-con during 9-11 June 2012 in the Australian Capital Territory.

At this stage I'm just looking for an indication of interest in a couple of formats for the DBA tournament.

Option 1.

First or second day of the convention - a single day DBA themed campaign - with prizes for the top place getters.
Second or third day of the convention - a single day open DBA tournament the "ACT Championships" with the standard plethora of prizes.

Option 2.

Same as last year - the ACT Championships being a two day open DBA tournament - first day would be armies from Books 1 and 2, second day would be armies from Books 3 and 4.

The overall champion would be the best placed player from the combined results of days 1 and 2.

Rules will most likely be 2.2 as I can't see a commercial version 3.0 being out by April.

Happy to discuss further

Jason

Hey Jason, personally I like the two day format with book1/2 on the first day, 3/4 on the second. Thanks for organizing this again. Will look forward to catching up - been too long. Cheers Mark

hi Guys,

Sorry for the delay - I've been waylaid with the Budget the last few weeks.

Anyway, here's the details for ACT Championships at Winter-con.

I intended running a two day event, but the overwhelming feedback was for a 1 day event - apparently most people wanted to play in other tournaments (40k, DBMM etc) on the first two days.

I'll be contacting sponsors shortly, so more details still to come.

Thanks again

Jason

wow $30 to play DBA for a day. Does that include lunch. We have a four-day tournament convention that cost less than $30. I don't question the value of your venue but that does seem high. I am curious to know where does the money go. does everybody want to pay that money and get prizes or would they rather play for a simple trophy wow

The price for the tournament is not set by me, but by the convention organisers to cover the cost of hiring the venue, insurance etc. However, if you are already playing in another multi-day tournament (SAGA, DBMM etc), the extra to play DBA on the last day would only be only an additional $10.

If the event was being run at a local club, the cost would probably be only $5.

Salaries (and many costs) are also (generally) higher here Bob. In fact the last time I was in the UK (April 2012), I checked out equivalent level jobs, and they paid (in converted currency) less than half my current rate. This does mean that a lot of goods and services are expensive though.

Apologies Titus as another engagement will have to precedent over attending Wintercon. Good luck with the competition and no the threat to disallow unpainted figures did not deter me!

Cheers
Steve

Hi Steve,

No worries - the no unpainted figures rule was not directed at you - but someone else who has attended tournaments for at least two years with unpainted figures. I can understand a newbie attending his first tournament, but not someone who has attended at least 5 or 6 tournaments and still turns up with the same unpainted figures.

See ya

Jason
