I have been somewhat remiss posting here. For those who don't follow my blog here is a catch-up of sorts:
Most recently another round of DBA this time in the late Medieval period: http://thewargamesroom.blogspot.com/...d-longbow.html Prior to that there are posts on some recent Hellenic encounters can be found here: http://thewargamesroom.blogspot.com/...pachyderm.html And here: http://thewargamesroom.blogspot.com/...al-romans.html There are of course plenty more on the site... |

A Built Up Area! Haven't seen one of those in a while! How did it go?

I had taken a Graeco-Bactrian army with an all mounted option. His placement of a full sized BUA completely mucked up my options. He had one flank locked down and I had no ability to attack the BUA even if I had wanted to. Clearly the Graeco-Bactrian commander needs to think more carefully before invading nearby Hellenic provinces with such a one dimensional army! In general terms we see BUA's reasonably frequently locally. Not all the time, but certainly every so often. Sometimes there use ends in disaster for the defender but other times it is a great success. I find they add another dimension to the games which I rather like, on occasion. |

Last weekend the second tournament of the Christchurch DBA Open was held. Being a Medieval tournament, and being short of Medieval armies, I decided to have a change and took along a Maori army.
A brief report of the adventure can be found here: http://thewargamesroom.blogspot.com/...discovery.html Last edited by TWR; 12-06-2011 at 12:51 AM. |

Very impressive! Like Vikings, but without the aggression! Three out of five against mounted armies is a great performance; the rolling low for attacker clearly came through!

I suppose that is true. Though the Vikings get an option for some light troops. Even one would have been an improvement. Still then I woud have needed to think more.

A list of armies and their final scores have now been added to the bottom of the report. They weren't available when I first posted.

Last weekend I refought Leuctra (371BC) twice using DBA 3.0 with very pleasing results, despite the game needing to be fought solo.
Should you be interested you can find some photos here: http://thewargamesroom.blogspot.co.n...test-game.html |

Another refight this time of 2nd Mantinea using a playtest version of 3.0.
The game played very well and had a great feel to it. While there remains much work to be done before DBA 3.0 is released this battle was first class. http://thewargamesroom.blogspot.co.n...test-game.html Last edited by TWR; 05-26-2012 at 08:04 PM. |
