Hi All,

Setting off at dawn tomorrow to make the trek to Canberra. For those who are playing it will be great to catchup.

Cheers,

The tournament was extremely good. Congratulations to the worthy winners and to Macbeth for organizing it! It was especially good to catch up with mates and make new ones.

Thanks for a great day.

Default The Results

Another successful DBA with a Twist tournament - in the end with minimal Game Day attrition we finished up with 12 players including myself stepping up to even out the numbers.

Prominent Fanatici amongst the entrants were Doug, Titus Pullo, MarkBB, Gregorius and Scipio.

The final standings were

Murray Woodford - IV/62 100 Years War English - 43
Doug Melville - III/72b Communal Italian - 37
Owen Horobin - IV/54c Medieval Scandinavian (Swedish) - 37
Brenton Searle - IV/26 Lusignan Cypriot - 34
Jason Dickie - IV/4a Feudal French - 30
Peter Phelps - II/12 Alexandrian Macedonian - 30
Mark Baker - I/52 Early Hoplite Greek (Spartan) - 28
David Lawrence - IV/12d Maori
Greg Kelleher - III/76 Papal Italian - 27
David Osborne - II/3 Classical Indian - 27
Leigh Dunn - IV/74 Free Company - 24
Steve Jones - IV/23 Feudal English - 18

The Executioner Award went to Greg Kelleher after he cut down 6 of Steve Jones' Feudal English in round 4

The Magister Militum Prize for the highests adjusted score was won by Brenton Searle and his Lusignan Cypriot - the adjusted placing moved him from 4th to 1st.

Kudos to beginning player Peter Phelps winning 3 games from 6 - the scalps he collected were Doug Melville, David Lawrence and Jason Dickie - all players with multiple championship crowns to their name. His happy dance was well earned

All up half the entries had Hd included - I wasn't able to look over the games as much since I was playing but there seemed to be little issue with the rules modification and as far as I saw it didn't overbalance the game in any way.

We have the ACT Championships coming up very soon so the time has come to get armies ready again.

Cheers

Hi David,

I had a great time as usual and it was more than long overdue you actually playing in one of your comps.

Cheers,

Hi All,

Murray, the winner of this comp, has posted a report on it from his perspective. It can be found here.

Cheers,

Default Universal Soldier

As usual, well organised, well run, and enjoyable games against very cool players.

Next time I am bringing my own float-tester David... ;-)

Though I can't complain, two games were very much luck driven, one in my favour (hurrah!) - one against (boo!)

My own report is here:

Talking Just posted on BGG

As I posted on BGG

"Lots of fun, and a good last game for me, letting me sneak into 2nd Place. Congrats on the win Muz, well deserved, and a very nice looking army.

David runs very nice tournaments, and I have to say, I have never met a nicer bunch of players. There are some very good players, but no power gamers.

One way that David ensures this is to have a handicap system, so if you take a 'power' army such as dismounting knight Burgundians, you might well win the Competition on the day. but the handicap system means the third place Jewish Revolt all Ax and Wb might actually outscore you in his overall placings!

So if you want a shot at the coveted 'Magister Militum' best ACT/NSW player of the year shield, it doesn't pay to take a power army, so it really evens up the field.

Well done to David for this approach, it effectively means the players who think of themselves as good enough to have a shot at the glory, handicap themselves. Very effective and a great way to even up the field without resorting to artificial constraints. "
