Harri Germans

I've been thinking about painting an ancient German army as the Harii, who Tacitus describes as blackening their shields and dyeing their bodies. Does anyone know what color they dyed themselves? The obvious answer is black, but I am relying on a translation and don't want to jump to conclusions. Sounds like they'd be a breeze to paint, though!

also, I don't have my DBA book handy -- which list would that be?
