Default DBA Crap-con Results

Hi Guys,

Just a quick message to let you know that Crap-con was a very amusing and enjoyable DBA tournament.

Between the open tournaments in Canberra (Australia), we like to hold a couple of small themed tournaments. Unlike a swiss chess system, each player will play a game against all other participants, with the winner being the person with the most points at the end of the day.

Given the small nature of the tournaments, we usually play to a theme - this time round it was Crap-con - which was open to all armies with at least six elements of Ax, Hd or Ps - and no more than 2 knights.

The low factors associated with Ax, Ps and Hd guaranteed the games were never dull and were certainly very fast (blindingly so, in a few cases).

In summary, the final placings were:

Doug Melville - Scots Irish - first
Jason Dickie - Lydians - second
Chris Burg - Sui Chinese - third
Brenton Searle - Numidians
Leigh Dunn - Khmer
David Phillips - Sargonid
Mark Baker - Thracians

So Doug was crowned champion, Chris Burg took home the Magister Militum Award for placing the highest with the lowest rated army and I managed to jag the executioner award.

The next invitational tournament will be Bibli-Con with fixed historical matched pairs of armies from the biblical period - most likely to be held in September. The next open DBA tournament in Canberra is David Lawrence's Collision Course competition on 23 May 2010, followed by the ACT DBA Championships in July.

A great big thank you to Mark Baker for providing the trophies and the venue and to all the players, who played in such a gentlemanly and amusing manner. A special thank you also to David Phillips for providing the prize for the Executioner Award.

See ya

Jason (Baldrick)

Highest placing with the lowest rating army? How is this rating worked out?

Did you use Dave Lawrence's rating system?

Yes, its David's system, which I believe is outlined in some detail elsewhere on this site. Each army was rated in terms of its numbers of each type of elment and then adjusted for aggression, the results were Khmer on top with 260 points and Sui Chinese on 208 points.

David was due to play, but had to withdraw when his leave pass was cancelled due to little athletics. He was planning to use Ugratic, which would have been very competitive to say the least.

There was some trully amusing armies, such as Chris' Sui Chinese with four hordes, who in true horde style spent the majority of most games skulking at the table base line. I hasten to aid, Chris did charge headlong across the table with his other non-horde elements.
