Default Cold Wars 2012: DBA Matched Pairs Results

We had 16 players for Matched Pairs at Cold Wars. The tournament was played with 2.2 on 30" boards.

All scales were allowed as long as they matched. 12 players brought 15mm figures, and 4 had "hybrid" armies with 15mm figures based on 25mm bases.

Here are the final results after 4 rounds. Armies were 15mm unless noted as "hybrid scale."

Group A

Jason Bostwick with Early Egyptian vs. Nubian: 71
Rich Gause with Hittite Empire vs. Middle Assyrian: 70
Scott Holder with Ptolemy vs. Marian Romans, hybrid scale: 52
Larry Chaban with Hittite Empire vs. New Kingdom Egyptian: 49
"Diceman" Rich Baier with an Italian Condotta civil war: 48
Larry Essick with Sicilian & Italian Slave Revolt vs. Marian Romans: 29
Sean Furey with Seleucids vs. Marian Romans, hybrid scale: 27
Ron Giampapa with Hittite Empire vs. New Kingdom Egyptian: 6

Group B

Ted Furey with Free Company vs. Later Hungarian: 89
Bill Fisher with Nikephorian Byzantine vs. Fatimid Egyptian, hybrid scale: 75
Mark Pozniak with Later Carthaginians vs. Polybian Romans: 71
Jeff Franz with Later Hoplites, Sparta vs. Thebes: 51
Bill Brown with Feudal French vs. English 100 Years War: 49
Kevin Boylan with Medieval Irish vs. Anglo-Irish: 45
Darrell Smith with Anglo-Norman vs. Scots Common, hybrid scale: 28
John Svensson with Polybian Roman vs. Later Carthaginian: 22

The mixed scales worked really well. I hope we can get even more variety of scales in the future.

Thanks for playing!

Hey, what were my 6mm Romans and Carthos, chopped liver?
Well, in the end that's what they turned out to be under my Genaralship, but... John

I really like the visuals of those hybrid armies in Diceman's photos.

Same goes for 6mm hybrids. The density does lend itself to seeing the elements as bodies of men rather than playing pieces.

I'm sorry! I missed the fact that yours were 6mm. They were on 15mm bases, correct?

I blame the fact that I was up until 2:30am playing Arkham Horror the night before.

We were doing well, but we stopped before the end. It's a slow game with 7 players... at 2am.

It depends on your defintion of doing well... I think JM got devoured on his first turn of the game.

Terence was in a situation a few turns later where he would be devoured if he rolled a 1 on a d6.... he rolled a 1.
