I am with you on this. I use tubed acrylic paints which I also get cheap here in the UK for around 2 for a range of 10 different colours. I find tubed paint keeps better.

I have 5 x 20mm armies and 10 x 10mm armies

I never play in competitions mainly solo. I love 20mm and use 10mm for economy and space saving.
