I am working on a scenario for a Hussite game at Historicon. I was planning on a big game with 5 "armies" on a side. Not just army vs army, but creating troop groupings as was done historically. Alll the Light Horse in a command, all the heavy horse together, sections of WWg and foot, etc.

The Hussites had 4 enemies. Themselves -- mostly conflicts between the Utraquists and the Taborites with maybe some Orebites after 1423. Others were Medieval Germans, Poles and Later Hungarians. These were all allies to each other and enemies too. To make the game interesting, I was thinking about including both Hungarians and Poles against the Hussites. It could be possible but complicated for a convention game to have a free for all with all 4 of these armies.

Sticking to Poles and Hungarians, however, I cannot seem to find a time line that shows both armies fighting Hussites at the same time, as allies to each other. Does anyone know of a time when both were so allied?

Thanks

Just read a short version of the Hussite wars, and it seems that Poland was actually an ally of the hussites to an extent.

I'm pretty sure it didn't happen.

There was never a combined Polish-Hungarian army attacking the Hussites in Bohemia, and there was never a Hussite army attacking Poland while they were calling upon Hungarian allies, and there was never a Hussite army attacking Hungary while they were calling upon Polish allies.

The underlying thought here is that Poland may have allied with Hungary against the Ottomans, and Hungary may have allied with the Poles against the Teutonic Knights, but that doesn't mean there is any historical basis for both of them fighting together against other common enemies.

To be more clear on the distinction -- the Poles being available as an Ally for the Hungarians means that they fought together that way against at least one enemy, one time -- not against all enemies. So in many cases there is no combined action, not even against a shared enemy.

In agreement with David, but expanding the theme, I offer examples of Poles allying with Hussites to fight the Teutonic Knights in 1433, with a campaign culminating at Gdansk, and to fight Sigismund of Bohemia in 1435.

So we can have a hypothetical battle of Poles allying with Hungarians (perhaps the Poles are planning to betray these allies and split Bohemia with the Hussites?), or we could have Poles and Hussites fight Teutonic Knights and Hungarians, or we could simply have a mega Hungarian vs Hussite slugfest. A consideration should be the fun of fielding colorful armies; historical accuracy could also be a consideration.
