How big is a 'double depth' element

This might seem a bit silly but, how do I base my DBM Bw(x)and Bw(o)?
(list III/64, DBA's 8Bw)

Since this is a combination of Spear and Bow, is it:

35mm (a mix of close and open order, 15mm for the spear and 20mm for the Bow)

or
30mm (all close order, 15mmx2)

or
40 (all open order, 20mmx2)

If you are using them for DBA standards, page 5 gives 40mm for 8Bw.

I haven't looked in my DBM rulebook to make sure that DBE for DBM also results in a 40mm depth...

At the start of the rulebook is a table of base depths for all the elements in the game. Just look up 8Bw.

Don't know III64 sorry. Go with your historic aesthetic/conscience. This is DBA!

The basing for Bw(x)/Bw(o) in DBM is exactly the same as the basing for 8Bw in DBA. The whole 8Bw concept was added so people with double-depth elements in DBM could still play DBA.

40 (all open order, 20mmx2) One important thing to keep in mind is that DBA doesn't have any double-based elements. The 8Bw element is a single element that happens to match a double-based element in DBM.

From the DBM perspective, both Bw(X) and Bw(O) are based 20mm deep. Despite being depicted with spear and shield, the front rank element counts as bow. So a double-based element is 40mm deep. And of course, as others have already pointed out, that matches the DBA 8Bw element.
