When the allies of a list with more than one choice (a, b, c, etc.) don't use letters, does that mean all the sub-types of the army can use that ally.

To make this concrete: Can either version of the War of the Roses English use the Scots Common as allies?

Nope. It means there is a typo or omission. In this case I suspect that only IV/83(a) can use the Scots ally -- the 1487 version (b) represents one or the other side of Lambert Simnel's rebellion, and the battle fought at Stoke-on-Trent.
