Great report, Terry. Thanks for that.
I do have one question that may indicate I am not interpreting the rules properly. You have a French spear element getting an uphill advantage against a knight when about half of each element is not on the hill.
My understanding of the rule was that all of the uphill element had to be uphill of the other element to get the bonus.

John - You get the bonus if "part of an element's front edge is upslope of all of its opponent", so most of the element can actually be off of the hill and still get the bonus.

My understanding of the rule was that all of the uphill element had to be uphill of the other element to get the bonus.
That would make hill advantage mathematically impossible to achieve with the exception of square hills and elements absolutely parallel to the square hill edge/ridge.
As DS says, what you need is one point on your edge uphill of the whole enemy element. Not your whole edge uphill of the whole enemy element.

If I recall correctly (which is a big if):
in a prior version, it was commonly played that each point along the front edge of an element had to be uphill of the corresponding point on the enemy element's front edge. In order to achieve this, both front edges had to be entirely on the hill. I think this must be what you are remembering John.
At that time, the only other possible interpretation of the rules as written was to play EVERY point along the front edge had to be uphill of ANY point of the enemy's front edge. This also requires both front edges to be entirely on the hill. And as DK points out, this is very difficult to achieve.
I think this confusion led to the language change reflected in the current rules, but I might have this a bit wrong.

By the way Terry, nice pictures. And from the report it sounds as though the battle was a lot of fun. Ya gotta like those French Horde!

Thanks for the clarifications. My Bedouins do not put out any hills, so I'm a bit rusty on those rules.
