Here's the situation:

Playing with BUA rules for the first time today against my father and he had a Ps garrisoning his BUA. I attacked with Spear and destroyed the Ps by getting it to recoil. My Sp takes the BUA.

He then launches an attack with an Aux and I resist for two bounds, without the +4 garrisoning factor (as I've yet to roll a 6), until he gets me to recoil. Now, am I right in saying that this Sp also is destroyed by the recoil, even though 'occupying' and not 'garrisoning' the BUA...? This is what we took to be the reading of the rules.

"A recoiling element starting with enemy in any front edge contact with its flank or rear, or that recoils from shooting entirely on its rear edge, or that meets enemy, impassable terrain, friends that it could not pass through or push back, or a troop-garrisoned friendly BUA or camp, or that is in a BUA or camp, is destroyed."

I think you are right on, all that applies is "in a BUA." No mention of garrison or occupy.

I wonder why he used a Ps in the BUA. What is the advantage of a Ps over a Denizen? It's only a +1 better but counts as an element lost plus the BUA.

Pretty good to go from being down 3 to even up at 1 each.

You have to realize that he's a 'newbie' to DBA and has played only a few games, plus it's the first time we've played with the 'trad' BUA rules, having used it as BGo only in the past. Not sure I like the current rules and can understand the controversy surrounding them....

Pretty good to go from being down 3 to even up at 1 each. Yeh, but I then assaulted the BUA with another Sp and got his Aux to recoil, to win the match; 4-1!!!! :D
