Book IV choice: paynim or feregni?

I'm going to hang out with some of the wonderful WADBAGers for an evening of battle and mayhem, and I can't decide which army (or armies) to take along. People seem to be mostly bringing Book IV contingents, which trims my choices down to four: Anglo-Normans, Early Crusaders, Syrians, and Ayyubid Egyptians.

Which of these armies would you favour, and why?

I'd take any two but the Anglo-Normans so you can do historical matched pairs if you want, unless you know that someone will bring a match to the Anglo-Normans.

Anglo-Norman and the Ayyubid are the best in competition with later book IV armies. Also tough to play well, so make good practice armies. Also two of my favorites, haven't won alot with either but fun to play. And against Wadbagers plan on learning, not winning, they teach what not to do very well.
Good group to game with.

Good news, that. Fun (and intellectual challenge) are the main point of gaming, for me.

That's my general rule with wargaming, whoever my opponents are. :D

they teach what not to do very well. Good group to game with.

In my limited experience with them so far, that seems to be the case; smart people, and very agreeable.

Hey Jan - don't just limit yourself to Book IV... bring some other stuff too! I'll have some Book IV and Book II stuff.
