We had a pleasant surprise at the De Bellis Vasingtonium tournament yesterday, which was held in conjunction with NOVAG's Fall Gameday. One of the vendors was a U.S. distributor for Alternative Armies figures of Scotland. Apparently Alt. armies has purchased the Tabletop moulds and is in the process of reissuing them as the Isarus range of 15mm Dark Age Miniatures. Some of the figures were rushed into production for display at Gameday. After wondering about Tabletop figures for years, I was pleased to finally check out some of the (now Isarus) Normans, Sarmatians and Blemmye figures. Also forthcoming are Goths, Selucids, Huns, Sassanids and more.
Mounted are packaged four to a plastic blister at a price of $4.00. Foot are eight to a blister at the same price. One pose per pack.
I picked up three packs of their "Blemye" horse -- heavy cav with javelin attacing (BL1), heavy cav with javelin (BL2) and heavy cav with bow and javelin (BL3). Fiures are well cast with detail that will paint up nicely. Figures are true 15s, slightly smaller than Essex mounted. I probably wouldn't mix them on a base, but perhaps in different elements of the same army. The detail is good and the style reminds me of a cross of Chariot and Minifigs.
There is a reasonable chance that DBA army packs are in store for the future.
Nothing on-line yet, but look for distribution in the U.S. through http://www.15mm-md.com, in the U.K. through http://www.15mm.co,uk, and possibly http://www.alternative-armies.com/
