Alistair Baird at Xyston was kind enough to send along samples of the new 28mm range of Xyston historical personalities. The range features Hannibal, Pericles, Leonidas, Spartacus, Mark Anthony, Rameses II, and Alexander the Great.
The quality of the carvings, detail, posing, etc. is excellent. There was very minor flash at the mould release points that is easily cleaned up.
Figures are advertised as 28mm, and are measured at 28mm from the bottom of the foot to the top of the brow. Figures with helmets and headresses, such as Leonidas, are taller if measured to the peak of his horsehair crest, but still in scale.
Each figure comes with a separate round base with terrain detail and footprints to help with the basing of the figure. All weapons are moulded on, and separate Greek shields are provided with Leonidas and Pericles.
I can't speak highly enough of the detail...especially the faces. They seem to have been based on famous sculptures, mosiacs and/or paintings for the most part, although there is at least a hint of Kirk Douglas in the Spartacus figure (at least in the hair style). These are diorama quality of the caliber I would expect to see in 54mm.
Figures are sold individually and are priced at 2 pounds or 3.50 U.S. dollars.
These would make an excellent addition to the command element of any 25/28mm army, and would also make dandy subjects for Barker Makers for 15mm and smaller armies.
You can see the pictures on-line at Xyston ( http://www.xyston.com ), so I won't bother republishing them at Fanaticus.
I'm going to hang on to Mark Anthony for a future project, but the rest of these figures will be available for perusal at Historicon and will be given away as prizes to winners of the Sunday Themes.
