This is Special Event month, and the month we begin testing the new rules for 2004. Players may now go to the Standings page and make their challenges for the month of September. The Special Event Rules page can be accessed from Rules and Standings. If you have any questions, please post them here.
I will be updating the Championship pages in the next few days.
Good luck and enjoy!

Excuse me if it's obvious, but I better have a confirmation ;)
Am I right in understanding that challenges must be answered with one of the nine listed armies, and not with historical opponents ?

Btw, no Civil Wars.

Before anyone has to ask, I just corrected the copy list on the Standings page. Please use it and edit your posts as you complete your games soe that if you miss the deadline you at least have games recorded. That way you're not left with nothing to show for all your work.

Dusty,
Do you want Sept. results in this thread or another?

For those who need to challenge me, Alan Winterrowd, #42, my username is Boomcoach. Dusty, should you change it on the player list to make it easier?
[edited for spelling]

I am trying to challenge Philip of Oregon, but cannot find him in either regular or trial players. If anyone knows of a different DBAOL name for him, please let me know, or I will have to assume he has dropped DBAOL.

Btw, no Civil Wars. Last challenge in, I have to choose between a Civil war and using an army twice. Which will I do ?

[edited for spelling] I will change the page. Everyone is supposed to have their sign-on there so players can find them. It would also be easier if everyone used their sign-on on the Board and used their name in the signature. But good luck that every happening.
Btw, Phillip and several others are gone. I will be changing the deletion status next year. It will only take three passes to get off the list.

Make it a Civil War. </font>[/QUOTE]As a quick comment, I think this will be very common in the September format since there is a high potential for you to run out of options in terms of selecting historical opponents. I think I may run into the same problem since I have already got challenged with army 38b twice already, so I have already picked the two options available (38a and 40). If I had already challenged with those armies before receiving 38b, I would have had a problem.

If I had already challenged with those armies before receiving 38b, I would have had a problem. I may not have been as clear as I should have been here. In this format, you are not required to answer only with historic opponents. You may use any of the nine which you have available. The only way you should end up with a Civil War is if you make and answer eight challenges without waiting for the last challenge to see what army it is. Everyone should have four or five choices, which should eliminate chances of Civil Wars.
I suppose this format should also need the requirement of a deadline for making challenges.
As for deletion of players no longer in the League, I am changing that as of now.
If a player has two passes in a row, I will move them to the bottom of the list. With three passes in a row, they will be removed from the list. Any new players who pass in their first month will also be removed.

What about this : (1) Players are allowed ONE, and only ONE civil war. OR (2) give 10 armies to chose from.
I believe (but combination mathematicians could tell me I'm wrong ?) that there are no risk of 2 accidental civil war, like Bid's.

Theoritically it is possible to be forced into a civil war if all the challenges you receive are for an army you have not sent. Remote but possible. 10 choice definetely avoids this.

You are right. But the odds are extreme. Ten choices sounds like a good suggestion, but we will see what happens with this. I think Bid will be the only one stuck in a civil war. ;)

One quick comment. I don't know if it is a coincidence but of the 6 games I have games currently on-going in this I have 5 where my opponent is either 38a or 38b. This is not a complaint, but something that you may want to consider in terms of the rules for the special event a particular player doesn't end up playing against the toughest army in the group against all his/her opponents. Perhaps some sort of predetermined challenge order so everyone has every army as their opponent.

Next month we will test the restricted format. I think it would be the best overall myself because it would keep repeats from happening and no one could complain about not having as fair a chance in all their games as anyone else. But that's just me. Sometimes freedom to choose isn't all it's cracked up to be. :D

Dusty, I had noticed my result as 'final' but they are not. One of my defeats is 'still to come'
Well, if you have already counted them, then, no big deal. I suspect this will be a defeat anyway.
