Hi all,

Does anyone know of a set of rules for playing out assaults on fortifications that are based on DBA? I'm not talking about campaign rules for sieges, but rather rules for actually fighting out the preparation and assault of a castle, fort, walled town, etc.

I'm after something with DBA's level of abstraction and speed of play, that uses DBA elements.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Will

Look in the campaign section of the fanaticus website for the campaigns from The Perfect Captain. The "Princes of the East" campaign has an interesting siege format that involves moving elements around a template of the castle being sieged.

The siege rules are in the body of the campaign rules so you will need to download the whole thing and find the correct section. There are seperate sheets for cities of different sizes though.

Hope this helps.

There's a seemingly interesting article titled "Storming Works"in the Campaign section of the Variant Rules. It pits a set number of defenders (4 elements I believe) against the attacking army. Combats are resolved as per rules and all defenders have to die for the place to be taken. It also contains a playtesting-worthy idea about splitting up the army to different size garrisons so that not the entire army gets destroyed when opponent rolls 6 in sieges. Have a look.
