Two games, both with new artillery rule: +2 in close combat. Both had my Condotta vs. 100 Years War English.

First game I attacked. The English set up a steep hill and lined it with bows. I hauled up my guns and shot one up. The others came off the hill slowly, paying bad going pips. They had trouble forming a line because the guns recoiled elements. They never closed. The artillery killed two more of them, the rest of my army killed another unit while losing one and the game was over, 4-1. If the guns had been +4 in close combat the bows would not have charged.

Second game I defended and was thoroughly out-deployed. Blades closed on my guns and killed them. A squadron of knights then rode down the blades. A swarm of bows shot up my right flank knights and the battle was over, 4-3.

I'll have to test this some more, but right now we like the new artillery rule.

The first game reminded me of Formigny (I think) where the French bombards goaded Endlish longbowmen into leaving their defensive position and attacking.
