Hey guys,
I didn't attend Historicon on Sunday, so I never found out who won the NICT and with which army.....Does anyone out there have the answer. I only made it to the final 8, but not bad for my first NICT!

I won it with Serbian Empire at 12:30am -- a very long day. The other finalist was Dave Schlanger with Palmyran. Both of us made it to the finals over the backs of Bostwicks; I defeated Jason Bostwick's French Ordonnance in my semi-final battle, and DS defeated Jonathan Bostwick's Tamil Indian in his semi-final bout. (Both DS and Jon Bostwick were using armies painted by me -- Jon had bought my Tamils and DS had borrowed my Palmyrans). I wasn't watching the other Elite Eight quarter-final battles, but my own was against Jason Stelzer's Three Kingdom Chinese.

The finals were contested by the Davids. If I remember correctly, David Kuijt was running Serbian Empire, and Dave Schlanger was running Palmyrans.
Fatigue was a major factor as both players had been going full tilt since early that morning (not to mention Thursday and Friday) and the final game didn't start until around 11PM.
DK took advantage of DS's impaired state and tempted him into the dance of death, a futile attempt to rearrange elements on the advance. When the dust settled DK was the winner, taking home his second purple t-shirt.

Yup. Nearly the same army, too! 4xKn in one case, 3xKn and 1xCv in the other. 4xBw in both. 1xSp and 1xPs for me; 1xBd and 1xAux for DS. Ag1 for both.

You're just saying that because both of us started falling asleep while the other one was taking his move...

The "Dance of Death" has now entered the WADBAG lexicon.
One correction -- it was my third purple T-shirt. I won in 2003 and 2001 as well. Marty won in 2002.

David,
The Serbian Empire is one of my favorite lists. It is a great army to compete with. I normally chose the Ax instead of the Sp. Did you chose the Sp basically to deal with enemy Art? I like this army due to it's balance plus the 2Lh still allows you to reach out and touch someone. I am sorry that I replied only to point out what you already know, but I couldn't help it since this is one of my favorite armies. Congrats on your victory.

Yes, the Sp was an Art-blocker. I thought about whether to use Aux or Sp, but went with Sp because I had lots of Art in my pool, and probably at least as importantly because my Sp was painted really cool and I didn't have a cool-painted Aux (just generic medieval). The first round of the NICT was a round-robin with competitors organized into six four-person pools; you played everyone in your pool once. The six pool winners advanced, plus the two highest-point non-winners. My four-person pool was the late Medieval one which included Medieval Scandanavian (Ron Giampapa, who was the other finalist with that army last year) and two Free Company armies (Rich Baier and Matt Torres). Without an Arty blocker I figured I'd be at a significant disadvantage against the two dismounting knight plus Arty armies, and that proved to be the case. In battle with Matt Torres my Sp was eventually killed by Arty (after taking a long battering), and final victory only came after my bow marched all the way to his camp, shot the camp defenders out of the camp and then when his KnGeneral moved in to stop me from occupying, shot his KnGen out of the camp as well.
