View Full Version : Kappadokians
Finished my first batch of Kappadokians. Still need to add some ground cover, but paint and sealer are done. I picked up this boxed army from Xyston with the intent to provide troops for my Mithridatic army. They will be stand alone eventually.
All figures Xyston with Little Big Men shield transfers.

Very nice work, I am also painting a Xyston DBA box set of Kappadokians,:) but I am not a fast painter so they will be three or four weeks yet before the Army is ready.
Matt could I ask are they shield transfares on the Ax because they look real good and I would like some for my guy's :)
What a pratt I am :( I have just noticed you say the transfers are LBM, could you tell me which sheet fits there shields Matt please?
Best Regards.
Adrian.

Thanks!
I bought two transfer sheets, both for Xyston miniatures, and cherry picked the ones that I felt were most fitting:
Greek Peltast range GPL(XY)1

and Thracian range THR(XY)1

I bought a Kappadokian boxed set too, mainly as support troops from my Mithridatic army. Steve (Yorkie user name) has a great Kappadokian army which may help with ideas and inspiration:

Hi Matt
Thank you very much for the information, and for the transfer sheet types, this info is just what I needed.
Yorkie's Army looks real nice, I hope I can get mine to look as good :)
Best Regards.
Adrian.
Finally finished (almost finished :o) the Aux infantry for my slowly growing Kappadokian army. Still need to base and flock them. Shields are Little Big Men, as the first batch. Figures are all Xyston.

Mat,
Looking very good indeed. What sort of finish are you considering for the bases? I would be interested in the final look.
Cheers,
I am far from home now, and don't have all of my toys. I am a bit limited in my options. The base will be similar to the original posting - sand painted earth. I will add a small amount of foliage to match my battle field.
Once I get the army done I'll post a final picture
Update from my earlier post. This batch of Kappadokians is done:

Hi Matt,
Bases look great. Did you put the long grass down firts or after painting the sand?
Cheers,
Greg,
Sequence of events was as follows:
Paint miniatures
Glue miniatures to base, let dry.
Glue sand and rock to base
Paint sand and rock earth tones
Dry brush sand and rock (two times / levels of lighter paint tones)
Apply bushes
Apply grass and then (after drying) trim with cuticle scissors. For one element I used super glue, for the others I used white/PVA glue. I haven't decided which is the best course of action. Super glue is fast, but if you make a mistake is hard to fix. White/PVA glue is forgiving, but it doesn't set fast so you have to "sculpt" you grass a bit.
Lengthy process, but that is what I did. This is why I like the hobby.

Very well painted, they are nice, but is it me or they look a bit glossy ?
I use a satin sealer on my figures, supposedly a semi-gloss finish. When I photograph them up close with a lot of light, the semi-gloss becomes more glossy. :eek
On the tabletop I think it makes the colors more vibrant, which I like.
