This one happened by accident. I meant to deploy Marian Romans but had Polybian Romans on the mind.

Great report, I like the clarity of the diagrams.

I wonder whether the double ranking of the Bd is a wise move. As the Wb are doubling to get support is it better to use the Bd to out flank the Gauls with, maybe, one Bd as a reserve to cover breakthroughs. The result was achieved without the second rank of Bd being engaged, suggesting that these were a wasted resource.

Keep them coming.

Hi Martyn,

I half agree with you. I think I put too many resources behind the blades. However, I do think something to counter attack with is warranted. I think 2 is a safe bet and 1 is taking some risk if there is a double break through. The other blade could have been cheated to the Roman left and could have helped out the Ps with their fight. Of course, all was lost with the death of the General. :)

Interesting that you had your Romans doubled up. I understand the reasoning. I think Martyn suggesting keep one or two elements in reserve, which would have given you a bit longer line, and maybe some overlap opportunities.

Bd vs Wb fight evenly if the Wb are single ranked. If doubled up the Wb have an edge, but may open their flank to an overlap, bringing it back to even.
