I was excited to see the new mtded infantry element in 3.0 because I have a bunch of medieval mounted longbowmen and crossbowmen and thought I might have a good use for them now. But looking at the Army lists posted, I don't see any mounted infantry showing up.
Did I miss something? How can we play-test mtded infantry if no armies have them? :)

Phil is currently redoing the army lists. I anticipate that there will be mounted infantry in the redone ones presuming the troop type stays in 3.0.
At this stage I believe Mounted Infantry is being reserved for those troops who would move mounted during battle, and so far the only concrete examples are Elamite Kallapani Cart Mounted Infantry, and possibly mounted bowmen in the 100YW.
If you have any further suggestions for suitable candidates, then please let me know. I will happily pass them on. And soon would be good, I have just been sent another draft of the Book 2 lists, so it would be good to get them to Phil before he finalises them.

So how do we model that for Kallapani? 3+mount when the mount is a chariot will be difficult on a 40x40 base.

i think the intent is they are modelled as the mounted element.

Less work for me but, I suppose, will require some explanation to ones opponent who would naturally see it as some form of chariot.

I would hope that you only play against people with an encyclopaedic knowledge of all armies from 3000 BCE to 1515 CE ? :rolleyes
Yes, some explanation might be required, but since they are likely to be rare, I would imagine most players of 3 would be aware of them.

I have done mine exactly as you have. What's the problem? They move as Kn at 3BW but combat and outcome and everything else as Bow, but only shoot if not moving. I did a game with these and got no pleasure from them. They can move 3Bw and not shoot, so move into range of enemy and sit there and recieve shots or get charged in opponent's bound. Mine did nothing. I would rather just move 2Bw and shoot every bound. Maybe with experience I will figure out how to use them.
Phil's view of troop types is that he wants to include every variety of soldier/warrior that existed in number relevant to the game. The Kallapani moved around in carts and shot at enemy. Only way to handle that is to make them Mtd Inf or would War Wagon be better? He was recently tying to include some Chinese cavalry that was chained together? Do we want these interesting variations or just simple types? I like the variety.

No problem, I didn't mean to complain. I apologize profusely!
I was more interested in the modelling aspect and since I only painted them last year and was very happy with how they turned out I'm very interested in changes that concern them.

And very beautiful they are too...
