View Full Version : "Other" Figures in Minipoll

The current mini-poll asks "Which manufacturer of 15mm miniatures makes up the majority of your armies?". Six makers are listed: Essex, Donnington, Chariot, Old Glory, Irregular and Museum. An "Other" category is provided for everyone else. As of this positing, the "Other Category" is running at 26%, second only to Essex, and well the 6% shares of Old Glory and Museum. As I struggled to figure out what the six most popular makers were likely to be when putting together the poll, I am wondering what the choices are comprise the 26% other result.

Xyston, Corvus Belli and Pass o' The North are possibilities, as are Lancashire, Tin Soldier and Tabletop, etc.

If I was to do the poll again, any suggestions on what the top six choices might be for purposes of polling?

Don't forget Gladiator they seem to be quite popular in various ranges.

Chris, is 6 choices the ceiling for the poll?

And why wasn't there an option for us non-15mm gamers to at least point out we exist?

Xyston, Corvus Belli, and Mini-Figs comprise the majority of my 15mm, although I have 1 Essex medieval army I picked up on Ebay.
Most of the Mini-Figs date from the 1980's, since then I have pretty much only collected 25mm (mostly Foundry, and soon Perry Miniatures), although I just 'had' to have some of the Xyston and CB figures when I saw them.

Andrew Sounds like you just suggested the next poll. BTW, my 25mm figs for DBA are mostly OG but with Foundry, Essex, Gripping Beast, and a few others on the side.

The next poll should be,
"For those who picked other in the poll, which are your top 15mm figures"
Pass of the North
Mikes Models
MiniFigs
Xyston
Corvus Belli
Other

Then do it again with
Table Top
Gladiator
Tin Soldier
Frontier
Falcon UK
Other

and next
Falcon US
Heritage
Peter Laing
Foundry (they had a great Middle Ages line)
Alphacast
Other (and aske people to name the "others")

and then take the top 6 from the qualifing rounds for a run-off poll.

Andrew I do not understand this question. It's like asking when there is an off year election for governor, "Why cannot we vote for President?" (for non-US people, President elections are every 4 years but some states have governor elections in the inbetween years.

The poll was about 15mm figures. If you want, and I'd be interested, set up a poll on what scale people use or a poll for what 25's are most used. But why mix 15mm and 25mm or 6mm in one poll???

Thanks for the feedback -- keep it coming.

Answers to a couple of questions:

1) I didn't give a 25mm option since I was contemplating a separate poll for 25mm.

2) Unfortunately, the polling software only allows for seven possible options. In this instance, I picked six makers and provided an "other" response to catch the rest.

We non-US people are often asking why we can't vote for your President - he always seems to have more influence on our lives than the people we do get to vote for.

Anyway, if you were a member of a small and largely overlooked minority like us 25mm DBA-ers, you would get touchy too.

This is an excellent idea! Since the US President has such wide-ranging influence on world events, the voters should speak their minds on him.

Their Battle Cry might be:

"No Invasion Without Representation!" smile.gif

I couldn't answer the poll question as stated because I own figures from about half a dozen makers - in varying proportion - but no single maker comprises a majority of my collection. I think Essex, Old Glory, and Mirliton are probably running neck-and-neck in my collection, with Gladiator and Xyston close behind and gaining. So, I couldn't realistically pick out one. Maybe a poll option for owning various manufacturers in equal amounts - but that's not helpful if you're trying to determine the most popular makers.

The only 15mm DBA army I have is Mirliton. Though those Swiss look tempting...

The rest of my stuff is 20mm.
