Hello everyone, I am brand new to DBA - Picked up a rule set and my first 2 armies at Historicon this summer, and now that I have finished some other projects, I am ready to start painting! I am sure that there are lots of resources out there that I could look at, but I am already intimidated by the scope of information in this forum alone. I am getting ready to paint the first elements of my Spartans [II/5a. Later Hoplite Greek (Spartan). 450BC-275BC] and I was hoping that someone wold be able to direct me to a site with some illustrations or pictures that would show an appopriate color scheme. I got frustrated with the sheer number of high school basketball teams that my search came up with.

Thanks a lot!

Suggest you try the local library and pick up a few of the Osprey books on Greeks. There are a number of titles on Ancient Greeks that should get you started.

Spartans of the Later Greek type. Bronze Psilos helments, long black hair & beards, Metal bronze armor or white linen cuirases with colored trim over an off white or red ciltron, bronze greaves Crimson cloak. Bronze sheild with Lamda "V" on shield. That covers the Spartiates, her Pelponesian allies would look less "regular" and have sheild with various designs.

Hope this helps.

And unless you are a glutton for punishment ;) , you might take a look at Veni, Vidi, Vici shield transfers for your hoplite shields.

The various Osprey titles are available in the De Bellis Bookstore here at Fanaticus, and can often be picked up cheap at second-hand book stores.

Wow, Thanks for all the great replies. Some of those pages are pretty serious! I guess I will have to provide several beers to my oponents so they hopefully will be dulled down a bit to notice my amateur paint job, lol. We'll I am off to get started on my Spartans, I will add a picture or 2 when I am done.

Cheers!
