Hi, I am working in a Later Greek Athenian army, II5b, using Essex figures. I notice the cavalry figure comes with a small horsetail hanging from the helmet. Any suggestion on what color to paint this horsetail? I have not been able to find anything specific, so am thinking of black. Thanks for your help, Terry

The natural colors of horse hair are good options so black, brown, white, plus various colors of the same dyed, most commonly red. But others are possible, most uncommon would be green, as very few natural dyes produce a green color.
hope this helps.

Jim, thanks for the help. I sort of thought that a natural color of horsehair would be the best option, and yet wanted it to be something that might also add to the look of the painted figure. So I'll probably stay with the black, but am giving thought to a brownish white, with an off-white dry brish finish. Terry

Terry, for YOUR troops I would suggest either yellow or white... tongue.gif

Dear Potty Mouth Ed,
Because you fear my troops so, is no reason to disparage them so! You will be seeing them and their BLACK horsetails soon enough, and they will remember your remarks!!!
