For the most part, the armies of book IV lie outwith any slight historical knowledge I can claim.

However in one particular case, I can claim "specialist" local knowledge, and sadly I must suggest that my fellow city dwellers, while correctly defined as to unit type, were not present (in any numbers), to support the wars of independence;

"IV/16 Scots Common army: [1 x General (Kn) + 1 x yeomen (Pk)] or [ 1x General (Pk or Bd) + 1 x knights (Kn)],
5 x yeomen Pk, 2 x yeomen (Pk) or [1 x Highland warriors (Bw) + 1 x Glaswegian warriors (Wb)] , 2 x yeomen (Pk)
or Glaswegian warriors (Wb), 1 x Highland scouts (Ps) or Islesmen (Bd) or artillery"

The Galwegians are presumably unamused.

I might further speculate that, based only on previous lists, it should be "Highland nobles or richer warriors" who are Bw, and the first, single, Wb should be, "poorer highland warriors" .

Dismounting has been removed from many armies, yay!
But is still there for some, erf?

How is dismounting currently being handled in the playtesting?
Can armies still dismount at any time during the game?

Elements may dismount at any time during the game. Elements dismount as a single element move only. No +1 PIP for dismounting. No movement during the dismounting move, just replace the mounted element with the foot element.

Wow, those Teutonic Order blokes have gained some options. Fielding an all mounted force and picking up some considerable punch with the extra knights. Ouch.

I'm well in favour of the list expansion but shouldn't the Swiss be included as an enemy on some or all of the lists?

Should naked warriors armed with wooden staff weapons and clubs be classed as Blades ?

I assume you are referring to the Maori? I think they should be warband, and I say that as someone who has two Maori armies I had painted. They are great fun.

I think they are Bd(f) in those games I don't play.

Brian does indeed mean Maori. I am using them in a Medieval tournament here tomorrow and I think he is concerned they may hack their way to victory. They are rated rightly or wrongly as Bd(F) in DBMM and DBR. I like this rating for DBR when fighting other Maori but do suspect it is wrong for DBA.

The aggression of the Maori should, I believe, also be 0. They stayed at home once they arrived here. I've suggested this be changed for both DBMM and DBA but that has not yet been adopted.

Didn't each new wave devour the one before - and they ate lots of the Moriori!

I have never used them in open tournament only in matched pairs.

Until the late 18th Century the ability of the Maori to put large scale invasions together was limited by transportable food sources. The introduction of the potato started to change this. Then relatively large scale invasions took place within New Zealand, but not from outside. This is outside our period of course.

The Maori are, in my opinion, are more suitable to a different troop scale than DBA seems to use, which is why I prefer DBR for Maori clashes. However, there are other armies which suffer the same issue. That aside matched pairs is a perfect use of Maori using DBA. I'm just pushing the envelope this weekend as I have few Medieval armies.

Hopefully they will defeat many of their enemies!

Rather than debate the rights or wrongs of the DBA classification system (which is beyond our control :D) ...

Has anyone thought to reassure Brian that a Kn heavy opponent (of which there should be many in a medieval themed tournament) will be the best control against Maori (or any other 12Bd army -- say Vikings) from hacking their way to victory.

Await the complaints on Maori ratings after a reasonable showing today. All invaders travelled to the land of the long white cloud allowing five home games.
