Byzantine leather armor

Hi all, Back from Cold Wars and at the paint table already. I have a question about the quilted leather armor worn by Byzantine Cav. The figures I have match those in the Armies of the Middle Ages-2 (The plate is #60, 14th Century Byzantine Cav). Would the color of the armour be a dark brown or did they dye it another color ?
