CAPTAIN ALATRISTE, a SPanish-made film starring Viggo Mortenson of LOTR fame, includes the battle of Rocroi, campaigning in Flanders (raids & siege warfare) and a bit of piracy. The Rocroi part's quite good IMO. Great film regardless. The movie's based on the series of novels by Arturo Perez-Reverte.
Best swordplay since Richard Lester's Three Musketeers way back when. Recommended.

Thanks for the advanced warning. Having read the first book I will be interested to see how it adapts for the silver screen.

I think they did an incredible job telescoping 7? novels into a single movie.
I've enjoyed all the books along the way. The war in Flanders certainly looks depressing.

If all of the books are covered in the film I think I might skip it until I have had a chance to read the complete series.

I'm old fashioned and still feel that it is better to read the book before you see the film.
