I am having a problem with my later Spartan hoplites and would like some opinions. I have the Essex army and they all have what appears to be the linen curiass. I was wondering should I just leave it white, or trim the edges in black or red. I have seen several illustrations with them with black trim, red trim, and some have a black rectangle on the front. I believe the guy I painted up looks ok with no trim painted, but it was pretty easy to trim the shoulder things with black. I don't mind the extra work, I just want them to look correct.

I don't know what is correct. I'll let someone else deal with that.

Essex Spartans were the first army I ever painted for ancients. I agree; they look better with trim. I would do it for visual purposes.

Bec, by all means trim them. It looks much better. A couple of years ago we had a very long thread about Greek Hoplites in the painting section. If you can access that it will give you some great ideas. White is generally right and trim sure makes it look better. :D
