My other element type that will be used in "The Reactor" is Relics - to cover Litters and religious WWg - eg the Carriocco, Khagan Whagan and Anglo Norman Standard of Ss Peter and Cuthbert
I am planning on allowing some other armies the option of Relics (eg Early Hebrew Ark of the Covenant)
Relics (Rc)
All DBA elements classified as Lit and certain WWg that represent a Religious Artefact or Personage become Rc, with the following adjustments to the DBA rules:
Relics are based as WWg and move as heavy foot - 200 paces off-road, 400 pages on road. Like WWg Relics cannot move off road in Bad Going, and cannot move into edge or corner contact with an enemy or enemy controlled BUA or camp.
Relics engage at +4 vs. Foot, +4 vs. Mounted (just add "Relics" to the line for combat factors for Spears, Scythed Chariots or Artillery if Shooting)
Relics do not shoot.
Relics suffer the standard Bad Going penalty of -2 for close combat.
Rear Support factors (p10) – any element add +1 if supported by a friendly element of Relics lined up in contact directly behind them and facing the same direction or directly behind a friendly element in side edge and front corner to front corner contact with them, or in side edge contact with a friendly element of Relics.
Combat Outcome (p11) Relics are NOT destroyed if they added +1 in rear support and the element directly in front of them is destroyed.
Combat results are treated the same as War Wagons (just add "Relics" to the appropriate line of the combat results table) – this means Relics do not recoil.
Other changes to the combat results table:
• For recoils – “If it is not Elepnants, friends facing the same diretion are interpenetrated if allowed otherwise pushed back unless Elephants, War Wagons or Relics.
A big thankyou to DK and Chris for the way they formatted Paviesiers which made my life easier.
I live in hope that DK might even propose this type to Phil in the same way as he proposed Pv

Only two new elements?
I have trouble remembering what colour my die is inside one of your dice boxes Stephen. How many new element types do you think I could commit to memory? ;):D:silly

beyond advocacy, whether something comes of it or not in the long run isn't in my control.
More than I could have hoped for.
I want my 8Bw (now that I have painted a large number of them) and I want them to be different from other Bw.
Thanks David

MacBeth....can I give your Relic's proposal the same treatment (by posting as a Fanaticus variant rule) as the Pavisiers proposal?
If yes....anything you'd like to add to or polish in what you posted?

Did you want to include the Pavisiers reference?

Chris,
please do post as a rules variant - I am more than pleased to see this. Give me a day or so and I will come up with some extra polish around justifications (as per DKs rules for Pavisiers)
- something along the lines that these element types were not baggage in that they were always carried close to if not right up to the front line
their purpose was to inspire the troops around them
they were usually guarded by a picked force - hence the relatively high combat value and no recoil
Bob - the Pavisiers reference in the Relics article is a failure to replace - it should read
Relics suffer the standard Bad Going penalty of -2 for close combat.

Naturally, fielding three commands for BBDBA, there would only be one such relic per army and not one per command?
I have thought in the past to have something similar for my Sassanids (Sacred Banner), but having an influence only for the central command.

That would be my take on the subject - but I don't do much BBDBA so I haven't considered it in too much detail.
I have thought in the past to have something similar for my Sassanids (Sacred Banner), but having an influence only for the central command.
For my upcoming tournament I have been poring through the old WRG6th edition lists for references to armies with Sacred Standards or Religious contingents. I plan to provide a list of armies where they can include a relic either as a replacement for the general (where said CinC carries the Sacred standard or is the sacred personage) or a replacment for the most prevalent troop type (where the standard/contingent is not part of the command element).

WRG 6th ed., if I recall correctly, did not lsit that many, perhaps 18 armies or so. The Oriflame would crop up on a number of French lists.
As I no longer have the WRG series of army lists, I look forward to reading your list.
