Khurasan's blogsite is featuring painted samples of their upcoming Chinantec range, enemies of the Aztecs who aided and later opposed the Spanish.

This is an interesting expansion in two respects. First of all, it is responsive to army list options in DBMM and FOG, so there is hope for some new Aztec enemies in DBA 3.0.

Second, this is the second new offering from Khurasan in an 'Armies of the America's" theme, (along with their pre-contact Iroquois) which bodes well for more America's options in the future. Toltecs anyone? Or perhaps a definitive Olmec range? Maybe even pointy hatted Huaxtecs?

Sweet! I bet these will be more people for my Chichimec to fight!

Chinantecs are now available, according to Khurasan's website (http://khurasanminiatures.tripod.com/chinantec.html). Woo hoo!

Whaddaya think? Pikes or Blades for those super-long, pointy things with the obsidian teeth at the end? I'm guessing Blades, since they were probably used in a slashing manner (according to Ian Heath), much as I would love the variety of a Meso-American pike army.

FWIW, the DBMM list makes them into 3Sp equivalents.

I've already ordered some (but they haven't crossed the big ditch yet).

Based on the DBMM list, I thing the army will be something like

1 x 4Bw (Gen), 1 x 4Bw or 3Sp, 6 x 3Sp, 1 x 3Sp or 2Ps, 3 x 2Sp.

Yep, I just put in an order for some too. --Here's hoping the Chinantecs make the rumored DBA 3.0.

Thanks guys, glad you like them. I don't think there is a list for them, but if and when DBA is reconciled with DBMM I guess there will be. (I don't want to start anything by saying that!)

...and still waiting. :( The Libyan no fly zone doesn't extend over the Atlantic, does it? :sick

...and still waiting. :( The Libyan no fly zone doesn't extend over the Atlantic, does it? :sickMail is now very slow across the Atlantic. I've heard much of it now goes via surface. Sigh.

In contrast, my order from Khurasan (http://khurasanminiatures.tripod.com/) for Chinantecs and Tibetans arrived in less than one week. Scary fast, that.

Khurasan were great in helping me sort out what I wanted for my order of Tibetans and Chinatecs. They even volunteered to restock one particular figure extra quick so I could get my secret army painted for Paul's Tibetan and "friends" event at Enfilade at the end of May- but don't tell Paul;)

How slow is very slow?
4 weeks since it was shipped and it hasn't turned up. I get the feeling it isn't going to now....

Breaking news - there is hope after all.

Khurasan provided me with the customs tracking number and, according to the USPS website, it seems like it has been sitting in the Jamaica, NY sort facility from March 9 to April 3 but is now on its way.

Last week, my order of Khurasan's Chinatecs and the re-stocked Himalayan archers arrived! Both sets are beautifully detailed! :2up I'm building a Chinatec army with 6-8 Pk, 2-3 Bd(G) 2-3 Bw and 2-3 Ps.

What do you base the Bd classification on?

The DBMM list only has Bw, Pk(F) (which could be either Pk or 3Sp in DBA, depending on how Phil sees them) and Ps.

My thoughts would be Bw(Gen), 1 x Bw or Sp, 6 x Sp, 1 x Sp or Ps, 3 x Ps.

Here are a couple, in-game photos I took at a recent NAGS DBA Game Night of Eric Donaldson's just-completed, "Khurasan" Chinantecs.

Here's another view (http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd69/Paul_A_Hannah/Erics%20Minis/DSCF0007.jpg), with archers atop a distant hilltop. Eric composed his Chinantec army, based on the proposed, draft army-list for this army in the rumored DBA 3.0.

IV/19b Chinantec: 1xBw(Gen), 1xBw, 1x(Bw or Sp), 6xSp, 3xPs

(They won their debut game against IV/63 Aztecs, but lost a long slugfest against the III/58 Toltecs.)

Hi Paul,...could you ask Eric what color he used for the flesh tones?

Eric Donaldson

I used a very watered down wash of a red-brown Calligraphy ink over a base coat of tan. I then came back and highlighted the muscle "cuts" with full-strength ink. I used to use Citidal Flesh Wash but as it is now unavailable I have started experminting with the Calligraphy inks with good results so far. I use a darker brown ink as a wash over horses (none in this army of course!) that produces some nice color depth and just a hint of a "sheen" that seems to look good. It was a fun army to paint - nice figures. They even won their fist game against an Aztec army and then lost to an all blade Toltec army - a long slugfest.
