View Full Version : Shields for Pyrrhic (Italiote) Hoplites

I am painting a couple of elements of 6mm hoplites for my Pyrrhic army. At that time (280BC to 275BC) would the blazons have been painted directly upon the bronze surface of the shield? What I mean is, having painted the surface of the shields bronze, do I have to put a blob of white in the middle before doing the blazons?

Well I do both with my soldiers, but not from any special knowledge of what the Greeks really did. One web site you can check out that has an expanding display of copies of Greek shield designs from vases, etc., is below:
