I'm looking for cheap (free would be best) references for Oscan shield designs. I'm painting up some javelinmen (Ax) for my Italians.

Just out of curiosity; whose miniatures did you use?

I'm using Old Glory. I generally like Old Glory figures and enjoy the budgetary aspects of using them.

I wish they made DBA army packs.

The poorer "Oscan" warriors used round wicker shields; not sure if they would have been covered in hide permitting shield designs.

For the better warriors shields, you might look to Samnites for inspiration. I've seen Samnite osprey plates reproduced at various locations on the web (undoubtedly in violation of copyright).

Well, my Oscans with round shields are not wicker. So they must have been hide covered. Little metal figures don't lie. smile.gif

Thanks for the suggestion.

Hullo
Chariot now owned by Navigator:
http://www.navigatorminiatures.com/cm-index.htm produces an Oscan Spearman with wicker shield. There is a jpg at Campaign Games which stocks Chariot:

There were some in a painted army on e-bay a month or two ago and they looked really nice.
Kind Regards
Derek
