Tried a new technique on doing chariot reigns - U might like to give this a try.
1) Take a pair of different colored threads (lt blue and purple go well - or a gold thread even)
2) attach the ends of the thread to an electric drill. I used a large diameter socket, and attached the thread around the socket using some tape.
3) holding the thread reels in 1 hand, and the drill in the other, spin the drill.
4) Keep the tension up on the thread, so that the spinning is even.
5) Maintaining tension on the spun thread, apply a layer of PVA over the thread.
After it dries, you have a nice strong cable that has very detailed color threads entwined in it. Cut into sections and apply as reigns. Because of the PVA, the thread can be bent nicely and hold it's position - so the thread does not have a life of it's own.
