A friend of mine was looking for a description for an English banner that signified that no quarter was to be given (similiar to the French Oriflamme). This banner was first used by Edward I at Berwick on the Tweed and then used by Henry III and stored at Westminster. There was a banner used in England on the
battlefield to signify "no
quarter". The only descriptions that I can find
are incomlete. They mention
a red dragon with a tongue desingened of a
material that "flickered like fire
from any angle", and that it had eyes made of
jewels that also shined in the
sunlight. I would like to know what the field
color was and if possible the
shape of the standard. He could not find a name for it, but when used it was called "raising the dragon". I was wondering if anyone had any more information on this flag.

Cheers,
Darren
