I am painting an Indian army, the type that fought Alexander the Great. Does anyone know of a good online painting guide? Most of the troops are clad in a simple white kilt-type garment, but I wonder about the chariots, shield designs, and the elephants.

Don't know about online guides. However, I believe that the Indians painted beautiful colorful designs on the elephants' legs, head and blanket.....the designs included flowers, vines, stars and such. I have read that the ears of Indian elephants were painted red....can't remember the ancient source. The chariots used cow/oxhides in their construction....paint accordingly...I had a pro paint my Indian army years ago....He used white stars/lines/curves to decorate shields that were painted red. The Indians clothes were left white....except for the Maiden Guard and the generals. He painted the Maiden Guard skirts in vertical red/white stripes. The generals have very brightly colored garments. Their beards are also colored.

I recall that VVV came out recently with transfers for Indian elephants.See their online catalogue.
