August 16-19, 1862

Lawton's Brigade encamped near Pisgah Church.

Jackson awaiting arrival of reenforcements from Richmond as Lee's army concentrates near Gordonsville. Union General Banks alerted to build-up and began retreat on August 18.

Lee issued Special Orders 185 on August 19th, with directions for the advance: "Genl Jackson's command constituting the left wing, will cross at Summerville (sic) Ford, and move in the same direction [Culpeper Court House], keeping on the left of Genl Longstreet." See Wartime Papers, p. 259.
