Armies of the Americas

Spanish Conquest
A DBA Variant Army List

In the spirit of creating an army list for friendly, non-tournament gaming, here is my cut at a DBA-style Conquistador list suitable for Cortez in Mexico, Pizarro in South America, Coronado in the American SW, or the host of other Spanish generals who claimed America for the Spanish crown. This list represents an expansion of the Spanish contingents in the DBM Tlaxcalan and Inca lists. The equal numbers of Spanish elements versus allied Indian elements reflects the relative "impact" of each rather than the actual numbers of soldiers.

The list begins with the start of Cortez' campaign against the Aztecs in 1519 AD and stretches through the fall of the Mayan and Incan empires through the "mopping up" campaigns of the early 1600s, and ultimately through the failed attempts to subdue the Mapuche. It ends somewhat arbitrarily in 1700.

SPANISH CONQUEST (1519-1700 AD)
Aggression 4, Arable. Enemies: Aztec, Mayan, Mixtec/Zapotec, Dog Peoples/Pueblo Cultures, Tarascan/Toltec-Chichimec, SE Forest Indians, Moundbuilders.

1x 3Kn Spanish cavalry (CnC)
2x 4Bd Spanish Sword & Buckler Men (with the occasional Halberdier for color)
1x Art or 3Wb Artillery can be depicted as a formation of arquebusiers and/or an actual cannon. The warband represent Spanish handlers with wardogs.
2x 4Cb Spanish Crossbowmen
6x 3Wb or 3Bw Native levies or allies (e.g. Tontonics, Tlaxcalans, etc.)
